New toolkit offers information on jail-to-community transition
The majority of reentry services focus on the 700,000 inmates who are released from prison each year, often ignoring the nine million people who get out of jail annually, and who also need help. The Urban Institute and the National Institute of Corrections created the Transition from Jail to Community Initiative (TJC) in 2007 to develop a model that would encourage collaboration between jails and community service providers to better help those being released from jail to successfully transition back into their neighborhoods. TJC also offers an online toolkit for jurisdictions seeking to provide a more successful transition from jail back into the community for their clients.
