Oregon Governor Signs Wide-Ranging Juvenile Justice Bill into Law

Gov. Kate Brown on Monday signed into law a slate of policy changes to Oregon’s juvenile justice system, saying the reforms “will serve troubled youth in our community for generations to come, reshaping lives and putting them on a path towards success.”

The new law ends a decades-old practice of automatically sending youths accused of serious crimes to adult court.

“By changing the sentencing guidelines for youth offenders, our communities will be safer,” Brown said in a statement. "And more Oregonians will have better chances of using their time in custody to make a turnaround in their lives.” Continue reading >>>
